Resolve

I'm one of those people who gripes when the stores start putting out Christmas decorations right after Valentine's Day.

Each year the holidays we celebrate seem to be getting closer and closer together with no down time in between...so much so that the local grocery store keeps an isle designated as "seasonal". Out with the witches and ghouls and in with the turkeys and pumpkins then Santa stuff.

Which brings me to New Years and those dreaded resolutions and yes, I know, Christmas isn't even over yet. You know them...eat better, exercise more, swear less, spend less...it's the same every year. I'm surprised that someone hasn't come out with a note pad with the popular resolutions listed so you can just check the boxes that apply each year. That way, by February, and you realize that, once again, you've kept none of them, you tear the sheet off and wade through the "holidays" til you can begin again.

What are my resolutions? I resolve to wait until at least 12/26 to think about them...

Ugghhh

In a discussion with a friend about
Tab, the soft drink, it hit me that
my dad was always on a diet when
I was a kid.

He was active military and had to
maintain a certain weight in order to
pass inspection or get a promotion.

I watched him diet over and over
again and at the same time, I
remember our family having all the
good snacks as a kid.

So is there any truth to the idea that
you inherit a "fat gene"?

If so, why didn't I get my mom's instead? She maintainted a size 12 all through those days. Wonder how?

My boss' boss was lamenting about how the women in our company have gone crazy and he doesn't understand why. This one bought a Camero, that one wants a jet ski and another just wants to get laid by her ex husband.

I asked their ages, and guess what? You got it......FxxK it Fifties all the way around.

I explained the concept and it made sense to him because he's seen it over and over, just didn't know what to call it.

It doesn't just happen to women who's age is greater than 50. Some women started having kids and careers earlier than others, but we come to that "place in our lives" just the same.

I started to argue with him that I hadn't done the Camero/jet ski route yet, but he gently reminded me about my "Rebellion Mobile", my Honda Silverwing. I blushed and had to admit, that yes, I too had a get-a-way car, just like the others, but I draw the line at sex with the ex.....Touche'

Master Your Metabolism

Michaels says that our hormones (men and women) are out of whack because our bodies were never meant to have to deal with additives, chemicals, HFCS (high fructose corn syrup, which by the way seems to be the most evil thing on the planet). She says we didn't start becoming obese until we started getting lazy about feeding ourselves.

In a nutshell. If it doesn't have a mom, or didn't come directly from the ground or a tree, don't put it in your mouth. Sounds simple, doable and painful. The withdrawls from Chips and queso are going to be mentally painfull, but somethings gotta give. I'll keep you posted

Love your Library

I'm a reader, but on a budget, so I love my library. I get the "Please come back to us, we miss you" catalogues from the Book clubs I used to belong to. I pour over them and imagine if I had the money, which would I buy. I then go straight to my library's web site and put those books on hold.

You know they say don't judge a book by it's cover, boy is that right. Some books "look" promising, but then when you start reading, you find you're just not that in to them. If I buy the book, I feel obligated to slug through it, after all, I spent the money. Now that I think of it, I do that a lot with food, oh and people, (but that's a whole nother blog). Anyway, with the library, I don't feel bad dropping the book back off unread if it didn't appeal.

So this week while cruising through the shelves of my near by library at lunch, I came across Gladys Hunt's "Honey for a Woman's Heart"...growing your world through reading great books.

Here is a short excerpt..."I'm not a literary expert. I am a learner, like you. I've written this book because I believe we are word-blessed people and our stewardship of that gift is important...reading is not an excape from life; it's an exercies in living"

check it out...no I mean really...go to your library and check it out.

This is my favorite orchid. I have a tattoo of it on my lower back. A word of advice on getting a tattoo...be very very sure you like what you picked and where you want to placed on your body...If I had it to do over again, I'd pick a different place, but love the tattoo.
